No kitchen should be without this book! This was my first cookbook when I moved on my own. When the ringbound version came out I had to have it. Now that I have been cooking for about 10 years and married the past 4 I have referred to the book for recipes that I perhaps would not have thought of.

There are numerous advantages to this book.

1. The ringbound version allows you to remove the necessary pages if you don't have room to prop the entire book.
2. The ingredients are usually things that you have in your pantry and it gives you different varieties and suggestions.
3. I personally like the table of contents for each section to make recipe finding easy.
4. The tutorial on different meats and cuts are helpful.
5. The quick and/or easy recipes are indicated as such so you can just skim through the pages and know which one to look at if you are in a hurry.

This book makes the perfect gift for anyone starting out, someone that does not have a lot of cooking experience or for the seasoned chef. This book has it all!!

My mother gave me an earlier edition of this book thirty-two years ago for my bridal shower. The recipes and instructions, along with the illustrations, are very clear and easy to follow. I have accumulated many cook books through the years, but my Better Homes and Garden is, by far, my favorite for all kinds of references I need to make. From where to properly place a fork at the table to making and canning strawberry jam, I still refer to BH&G, solely, several times a week for all my cooking and baking needs. My BH&G cook book is tattered and worn, but as far as I'm concerned, it was the most useful gift I ever received. Most importantly, the recipes contain ingredients that are usually found in your home or can easily be obtained. I'm an excellent cook and baker and I attribute that to my BH&G cook book, every novice cook should own one !

A good basic cookbook. Not a lot of involved marth-esqe recipes but specializes in many good old fashioned delights. Need to have a page holder as the book doesn't work well open on a counter. Desserts are especially well done and represented.
